Reading

Recently, I’ve been making trips to the Pioneer Community Library. Managed to find several interesting reads:

1) Virgin Lies – by Roderick Anscombe.
A psychological thriller about a kidnapping incident narrated by a doctor, where the only eye witness was a mildly psychotic lady. Faced with a kidnapper who is smug about his misdeed and out to challenge the system, the authorities had to use certain unauthorised methods to save the girl from death as a result of dehydration, where the doctor’s principles will come under scruntiny.

2) BloodLine
Dracula lives on! Set in England during the First World War, a junior intelligence officer has to battle it out with the successor to the throne of the Count Dracula, who relentlessly claims his beloved sister as his bride. However, as it was revealed that their long lost mother was still alive, things take a serious turn and the plan which was originally to kill the vampires turned into a plan of vengence, as the desperate brother strived to assume the dark power of the cursed night.

3) A Dirty Little War by John Martinkus
Dirty Little War as real account by John Martinkus about the events in East Timor leading up to its protection and subsequent independence by the United Nations. The book documents the atrocities of the Indonesian authorities under their military dictatorship, in a narrative style.

SPMS Orientation Camp

General
I found good company at this camp.

Colin, who happens to be my roommate Kaaster’s HCJC Track pal.
Germyn, a guy who is even more silent compared to me. Seems to love the MRT game.
DunMing, our jester.

I think it was definitely a plus point that my OG had the prettier girls, including the OGLs. Like I always say, somehow I get pulled to the best places in times when there is uncertainty. (I got Hall 6, btw.)

Well the minus point was it was quite difficult to talk to the ladies when they look so attractive, that sometimes I just didn’t!

By the way I really fouled up quite abit. I shouldn’t have went back to school for work on Tuesday morning -  a decision i really regret. I should have remembered to bring my jeans! And I should have remembered to prepare my present! Dang.

SP NIGHT
SP night, which I was seriously underdressed for (Bright Orange-Red Polo Shirt & Grey Bermudas) was a night not to be remembered. My SP is a MOE scholar (Great. I’m becoming the minority). Jaslyn the volleyballer. The Emcee-ing was poor, I think everybody would agree. The concept of the games were nice, but the forfeits are just lack creativity. Who cares about “seven wonders” or “pole dancing”? Get them to dance to some music! Eat some wasabi! Lick cream off somebody’s face!

I would have prefered to have some table games for the floor. But well, there seems to be limited games and some matchmaking going on as certain couples kept going on stage.

Amazing Race
What can I say? Its amazing, my team got 1st place. Teams I join never got first in anything before. But that clumsy half filled 1.5 litre water bottle was really a pain. I really want to thank Salome: She listened. I told her that majority of the time I didn’t know where I was going to. I bet many ppl didn’t too. Only people who knew the seniors personally would. She actually made the effort to shout and remind whoever was leading the front to annouce the next choice of action or location. Bravo.

Live Size Snake & Ladders
We lost terribly. Last position I think. And during one of the games which we passed the parts to make up a simple bread-lettuce-bread sandwich, the last part dropped on the sand. Great. And we all ate it as a team effort.

In Conclusion
Besides the strong belief that I could have been a better Emcee (only if I overcome my slurry speech problem), I feel the overall experience from this camp was kinda good. As a staunch non-supporter of kiddish cheers, I managed to get away with not cheering 90% of the time, and without a sore throat. Lycanthrope was a nice group to be identified with, and I will be looking forward to the steam boat cum Chocolate fondue session on 15th August.

I’m envious of people around me who have scholarship to cover their expenses. But envy is not enough. I must get 1 in the first year. Please.

My last day of work is on 25th of July, one week ahead of the scheduled 1st August. Three main reasons:

1. Hall Camp is the whole of next week.
2. Leave before its too late. Everybody’s leaving, so I’ll be covering the sai kang relief duties.
3. 1P1 is f.ucked up.

I shall miss my students. Only some of them. For the Sec 4s, good luck. If I were you, I would study the following:
-Managing Healthcare-Diplomacy&Deterrence-Iraq-
-SriLanka&NorthernIreland-Bonding Singapore-Globalisation-

I shall see you around the neighbourhood. And perhaps on judgement day at next year.

Mizuno Shoes are currently quite thick on the cushion, but i guess my incorrect running style which I am so used to is going to hinder my training for the 21 km SAFRA Run.

**I’ve never felt this feeling for one whole year. The source of this anxiety – REPLY MY SMS!**

Long Overdue Purchases

Finally I decided to splurge on those shoes. I bought the Mizuno Inspire 4 from Queensway @ $132.

I guess the price would have been more than what others paid for, but hell its just a couple of dollars and at least that guy knew what he was selling me. Apparently my arch had started to flatten due to poor support. My previous Mizuno Precision 7 had support, but i needed more. I strongly believe its a good buy.

After Queensway, I went for a swim in the afternoon. I wore the vision correcting swimming googles which I bought the previous day at Jurong West SRC for $36…. Wow. Its very very clear! The previous mediroce googles I used gave me fogging up problems which this one did not! And I thought it was a problem all swimmers live with. I have witnessed and currently is empowered by the power of technology!

My birthday is coming soon. The next coveted purchase is something like that:

I spilled Mango Milkshake on my white shirt today during lunch. I was wearing a white shirt. Damn.

I bumped into this student from 4v6 whom was allocated to my Social Studies group last evening, twice, at the Nanyang CC square. I believe her name is Yo.landa.

—————————————————————————————-

I was late for work 3 times in a row this week. Luckily I’m not a student in this school. My secondary school didn’t take lateness THIS seriously. Well yes we had prefects guarding the entrances to the school.  We don’t make a big fuss out of this lateness thing. People know that its wrong to be late, but that doesn’t mean we hope to get a scolding or run some laps so that we feel better about it. We’ll just try to be on time for school until we happen to be late again. ”)

I remember there was once when I woke up at ten on a normal school day. I entered the classroom after recess, to the amusement of my classmates. That was in Sec 3. =D

I lost my swimming googles, so I’m going to get another pair tomorrow (Friday). I need a new pair of running shoes too. My Mizuno Precision 7 has worned out. I’m supposed to be training for the Sheares Bridge Run on 24th August, but I’ve hardly ran since 15km a month ago. My target for 21km is currently still 2hrs 30 minutes.

Why I hate Smsing

•July 7, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Continuing about teeth. The degree of their whiteness struck me weeks ago when I saw this photo.

(Okay I’m getting some problem with aligning this.)

Thats me by the way after 15km @ ECP. And thats my friend CMay. Somehow i noticed that my teeth were very VERY yellow in comparison to hers. I felt quite dejected because of that.

As a matter of fact, this was a month ago! But last night I just messaged her on my phone (I hate smsing), commenting about it. *Beep* Oh here comes the reply. *Beep* *Beep* *Beep*

“U haven’t really divulged any Great Love for anything like mushrooms etc u know… How am i to know. Haha. Would u rather a surprise or like to choose?” The topic had shifted from my teeth to my birthday, which incidentally, is the second day of school.

Of course i would prefer a surprise =) But what a surprise, she stopped replying when I asked her about her mushroom cushion. It looked something like that. As usual, I felt a tingle of anger. Mushroom

I still feel that the Mushroom is cute. What a good taste I have in certain people’s presents. Cheating bought it though, and I owe her 42 dollars i think? Will pay you in full when u return from S.Korea.

Time to go to work. Hopefully everybody is in the pink of health today.

First Random Thought

•July 7, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The first random thought I had today was to start this webblog. Even I was amazed myself. Its 6:00 AM in the morning and i just sat down in front of the computer after brushing my teeth. While I was brushing the top layer of my gums, finishing up, all I was thinking about was: I am brushing my teeth,  why aren’t they whiter? I shall start a blog!! And then here I am, registering online as a wordpress member.

For you readers information, I have started 1 blog before, but I stopped rather soon because it slowly spiralled downwards into a depressive tone. Who in the world would want to read such stuff? I have put off the thought of starting a event log online for 1 year. Now that I have finally succumbed to randomness, I shall make it an effort to prevent it from happening again. Period.

Last night, my friend, who is a 3rd year dental student, Ylang (I’ll try to put people’s names as nicknames to prevent people from google-ing, something i often do), advised me on my tooth situation. Well, one of my greatest regret in life is not taking care of my teeth. I didn’t use to brush regularly until I went to JC, and I was quite unfortunate to skip primary school dental appointments because i switched schools from Keming to Rulang Primary in Primary 2. They must have screwed up the paper work. So all the way from Primary 1, when I was seven, till some time this year in April, I have not even went for a dental appointment! I’m almost 21 now, so thats 14 years. I’m not fearful of the dentist and his menacing array of drills, but the thought of the fees I have to pay for a check up put me off the most.

Back to the present: I have a dead tooth pulp which needs to be extracted and replaced with an implant (the better solution) – $2000. I’m feeling a burning sensation at my butt, near the back pocket. Retribution from my teeth.

But hey, I guess at least this solves a tooth problem which has gone back at least 7 years.
